My personal blog is dormant - as I can’t publicly comment on health IT issues using my real name any longer. Back in the day - I was one of a handful of inspired physicians who were trying to enhance the transparency of healthcare and Health IT through a new medium called blogging. I always said that I would be open and honest about where I saw the industry going .. and I was .. until my work became noticed by too many people, and my “day job” became too visible for me to comment publicly.

So this blog is a new outlet for me to weigh in meaningfully - and hopefully provide insight from a health IT industry veteran. I won’t share company secrets .. or opinions about anything other than publicly available information. But as anyone who has read “Blink” knows .. sometimes it is easier to understand things when you know the context very well.

About me

I am a primary care physician, parent, and husband. I love my work - where I focus on helping physicians take better care of their patients every day. I’ve worked in many settings: hospitals, large physician practices, small physician practices, small health IT companies, medium-sized health It companies, and large health IT companies.

No - I won’t tell you where I work now - and I won’t give you hints.

No - I am not Mr. HISTalk .. yes I know his real name. No - I won’t tell you who he is.

Why am I writing this?

Health IT, it seems, is the new black. (John H is both, of course!) Everyone wants “in” .. and I have found myself giving career advice quite a bit lately - either to IT people who want to join the Health IT parade .. or to physicians who want to practice less ..and “do HIT” more.

Amid the chaos of the “blogosphere” (and the twitosphere?) my goal is to write occasional notes here on the state of the industry - providing cogent, thoughtful guidance. My twitter updates - like all twitter updates - will be quick pointers to information that I have found useful .. and I expect them to be much more frequent than the content posted here.
